Only a SWOT Analysis Will Tell If Things Are Good or Bad

This year started with some dire predictions about the imminent and inevitable destruction of the Russian economy with ensuing widespread social unrest.

What is the Third Rome Project?

(РУС) The country known today as the Russian Federation and its neighbors are sitting on the most important real estate in the world. Eurasia, which includes the Caspian Sea region along with Russia's vast natural resources is arguably the most contested region in the world. It was these resources that drove the Germans to launch the Second World War in order to get access to oil and fertile lands.

After the collapse of the USSR and economic turmoil in the 1990's Russia's leaders are finally reviving and redefining the Russian nation and its role. Will Moscow assume a higher position on the world stage? And what about other countries like Serbia that share the same roots as Russia?

What is the Third Rome Project? Modern Western civilization originated from "Romanity" or Roman culture. This civilization was a result of various adaptations of Roman laws, Hellenic philosophy, and the Christian Church that were passed on from Rome and later to Constantinople (New Rome). After the fall of Constantinople, the torch passed on to Moscovy or the "Third Rome." Despite countless invasions, upheavals and occupations that came and went including communism, Russia has reemerged complete with the symbols handed down from the Roman (Byzantine) Empire. With new technologies of the information age, Russia now has an opportunity to develop its vast energy resources and potential food production unlike any time in its previous history.

Will Russia's leaders succeed in this current global economic crisis? Will the Russians be able to solve the problems of demographics and be able to survive the realignment of the new global order? This all depends on whether Russia can develop its potential and develop a society to lead it into the future. Hopefully these issues can be addressed here at the Third Rome Project!
